SUMMARY:Make a Braided Wool Rug (4-Part Class)
DESCRIPTION:Over four sessions\, turn wool garments and blankets into a rug. Practice braiding\, shaping\, splicing\, and tapering. All supplies provided.\n\n\nIn this class series over the course of four Sundays in May and June\, students will learn how to turn old woven wool garments and blankets into attractive and useful rugs. Students will learn: \n\nMaking a T-Start\, and braiding vs. plaiting.\nBeginning to braid\, and making a curve or corner. Making the rug round vs. oval.\nLacing.\nSplicing in more material as you braid\, and strategies for color changes.\nTapering down and finishing.\nPreparing your own materials: washing\, deconstructing\, cutting strips\, splicing\, and folding. Securing the fold by pressing\, pinning\, or basting.\n\nBy the end of this series\, students will either be on their way to finishing or will have finished a small braided wool rug. All supplies provided. \nPlease be sure you can make it to all four of the class periods (listed below) and register only for the first date listed (May 31st): \n\nSession One: Sunday\, May 31\, from 1–2:30pm at the Shoreline Tool Library\nSession Two: Sunday\, June 7\, from 1–2:30pm at the Shoreline Tool Library\nSession Three: Sunday\, June 14\, from 1–2:30pm at the Shoreline Tool Library\nSession Four: Sunday\, June 28\, from 1–2:30pm at the Shoreline Tool Library (skips to this week because 6/21 is Father’s Day)\n\nAbout the instructor\, Margaret Elwood: Margaret has been co-leading a drop-in class with weekly work sessions for two years at the Edmonds Waterfront Center. She learned rug-braiding from her mother\, and she is a member of the Rug Braiders International group for ongoing learning and support. \nThis class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series\, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. SUMMARY:3D Printer Orientation: The Basics @ NESTL
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. If you are interested in taking both\, you can take them in either order. \nTaking the 3D Printer Orientation is required to use our in-house printers. You must also be a member of NE Seattle Tool Library or Shoreline Tool Library to take this class.
