SUMMARY:Community Threads @ STL
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to chat and craft together. Bring your textiles or craft supplies (or use our sewing supplies)\, and get to know your community!\n\n\nGot a collection of hole-filled socks you can’t get rid of? Have you been meaning to set aside time for your latest alteration\, but need some motivation? Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? We plan to host it on the second weekend of each month: the second Sunday at the NE Seattle Tool Library and the second Saturday at the Shoreline Tool Library! \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom. The restroom is ADA compliant.\nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events\, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility notes or requests. \n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus Rapid Ride E Line on Aurora Ave N and N 165th.\nBy bike: The venue is located one block west of the Interurban Trail. Shoreline Light Rail stations are each about 2 miles away. A bicycle rack is available outside the building. \nCar parking: There is an asphalt parking lot that fits up to 20 cars. There is one ADA van accessible parking space with an access aisle.

SUMMARY:Machine Sewing 101
DESCRIPTION:Learn sewing machine basics\, stitches\, threading\, tension\, best practices\, and more! Leave with a sampler\, PDF guide and confidence.\n\n\nStudents will leave this class with the foundation for utilizing a standard home sewing machine. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking for a refresher\, this workshop will teach you all the ins and outs of a standard home sewing machine. We’ll use the Shoreline Tool Library’s sewing machines to explore questions like… \n\nHow do sewing machines work?\nWhen should I use each stitch?\nWhat’s a bobbin and how do I thread it?\nWhy do all the parts have funny names?\nWhat’s the deal with the tension?\nIs this thing I heard about sewing a rule or a guideline?\nHow soon can I make my dream project?\nAnd so much more!\n\nYou’ll come away with an understanding of machine sewing best practices\, a stitch sampler\, a PDF with all the information we cover in class\, and the confidence to start tackling some projects. \nAbout the instructor\, Heather Gilbertson and Susan Gregory: Heather and Susan are excited to teach Machine Sewing 101 and share the gift of sewing that their moms shared with them! \nThis class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series\, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. If you sign up for and attend one of the classes/events in this series\, you’ll get a token for 10% off your next purchase at Seattle ReCreative to help you continue your creative journey! \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nACCESSIBILITY: \n\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom.
