SUMMARY:Fruit Tree Care 101 (S4) @ STL
DESCRIPTION:John\, the owner of Renaissance Tree Care\, will teach you the basics of how to take care of a range of fruit trees. Some materials required.\n\n\nJohn will facilitate and lead a discussion about basic fruit tree biology and fruit tree structure\, and why we prune or don’t prune based on goals and the species of tree or shrub. He will demonstrate some basic fruit tree pruning techniques and call out things to avoid that might cause damage to fruit trees while pruning. \nClass supplies to be provided by students: \n\nStudents must provide their own safety glasses and gloves.\nThey are welcome to bring their own hand saws\, pruners\, and loppers to learn some tricks of the trade in using them.\n\nAbout the instructor\, John Zehren: John brings to this class his background in teaching plant amnesty pruning classes. He has owned and operated Renaissance Tree Care for over 35 years and has taught his employees everything they need to know for tree care. John has a four-year degree in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and an Arborist credential from the International Society of Arboriculture. \nAll classes in Seattle REconomy’s Shoreline Sustainable Skill Series are offered at a reduced rate. DESCRIPTION:Kids 5+ and their caregivers will join Seattle ReCreative to make holiday ornaments from reclaimed materials\, perfect for home or gifts.\n\n\nChildren will join our partners at Seattle ReCreative and learn to harness the power of creative reuse to make beautiful\, inspirational\, and artistic holiday ornaments from reused and reclaimed materials. They’ll leave this workshop with wonderful ornaments great for display at home or as a nice gift. \nAll tools and materials are provided. DESCRIPTION:All ages are welcome at this class with the Shoreline Fire Department\, as you learn about a variety of disaster preparedness strategies.\n\n\nJoin us at the Shoreline Tool Library for a free class where students will learn from Shoreline Fire Department’s Captain Andrew Leith: \n\nHow the 911 system works\nWhy there will be a significant delay after a disaster\nWhat you will need to know post-disaster in the first 72 minutes and the next 72 hours\nHow to shut off utilities\nFire extinguisher operation\nSupplies you’ll want to have on hand\nHow to purify water\n\nAll ages welcome\, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. This class has limited capacity\, so if you can no longer attend\, please cancel your ticket.  \nAbout the instructor\, Captain Andrew Leith (Shoreline Fire Department): Captain Leith has 23 years of experience at the Shoreline Fire Department. He’s a member of the WA State FEMA Task Force 1\, Wildland Team\, Technical Rescue Team\, Rescue Swimmer\, and is assigned to the North and Heavy Rescue Crew. \nAll classes in Seattle REconomy’s Shoreline Sustainable Skill Series are offered at a reduced rate.
