DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of machine sewing and go home with your very own handmade potholder! No sewing skills are required. 16+.\n\n\nLearn how to sew on a sewing machine and make a potholder perfect for a gift! No previous sewing experience is required. All tools and supplies will be provided. This will be a beginner-friendly class to learn the basics of machine sewing where you get the opportunity to make a potholder and take it home. \nAbout the instructor\, Ava: Ava learned sewing from her Mom who used to teach sewing classes. Ava then moved on to teaching classes herself at the makerspaces at UW. She has experience with making all types of items from bags to dresses\, and also loves to troubleshoot machines! \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Have you been meaning to set aside time for your latest alteration\, but need some motivation? Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the Shoreline Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Reminder: You must take the Workshop Orientation class before using open hours\n\n\nCome in to our workshop to work on wood projects and get guidance on your woodworking. Once you have completed the workshop orientation you may sign up for open shop hours! \nWe charge a $15 fee to access the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our workshop open. SUMMARY:Darning 101: Basic Darning Skill Share
DESCRIPTION:Bring an item that needs darning\, and learn how to do it yourself! We recommend basic hand sewing skills\, but this is a beginner class.\n\n\nDarning 101! Everyone will bring an item of theirs that they would like to darn and after a tutorial\, we will each work on our own item for the remainder of the class with instructor supervision. This class is a beginner’s class\, but it will help to have BASIC hand sewing skills. This class will also teach people how to DIY darning mushrooms out of glass jars and various household items. \nIf you have a darning needle and/or a darning mushroom/egg\, please bring it so we can teach you how to use your tools! \nAbout the instructor\, Marlee Blue: Marlee has been mending clothes for a number of years. They are passionate about sustainability and keeping things out of the landfill.
