SUMMARY:Learn How to Make a Picture Frame
DESCRIPTION:Master the art of precise joinery while creating custom picture frames that showcase your favorite memories in this two-part series.\n\n\nThis two-part workshop teaches essential woodworking skills through a rewarding project you’ll be proud to display. You will build two custom picture frames (one 8×10 and one 5×7). \nThrough this class\, you will learn accurate miter cutting techniques\, how to create strong and invisible corner joints\, how to use a miter saw and hand tools safely\, sanding and surface preparation\, routing decorative profiles\, and much more. You will also learn how making picture frames teaches precision; every cut must be exact for perfect corners. These skills translate directly to furniture making\, trim work\, and countless other woodworking projects. \nClass Structure: \n\nDesign selection – choose from classic profiles or create your own\nCutting and fitting – master the miter joint\nAssembly and finishing – complete your frames ready to hang\n\nExperience Level: Beginner-friendly – great introduction to precision woodworking. \nWhat’s Included: All hardwood materials\, glass\, backing boards\, hanging hardware\, andfinishing supplies. \nThis class is over the course of two days (Wednesday\, September 17 from 5-7pm & Saturday\, September 20 from 4-6pm). Please be sure you can make it to both of the class periods and register only for the first date listed\, September 17. \nAbout the instrcutor\, Alok Grover: Alok believes there’s something special about creating with your own two hands. With a love for woodworking that started as a hobby\, he has turned simple pieces of wood into lasting treasures for family and friends. In this class\, Alok will share that same joy with you—guiding you step-by-step as you craft your own picture frame. Along the way\, you’ll learn tips\, tricks\, and finishing touches that make each frame unique\, just like the memories it will hold. \nWhether you’re brand-new to woodworking or already handy with tools\, you’ll leave with a beautiful frame and the warm satisfaction of saying\, “I made this.” \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.

SUMMARY:Tool Library Book Club
DESCRIPTION:We will discuss “Endling” by Maria Reva and have ourselves a food surplus swap!\n\n\nJoin us for the sixth edition of NESTL’s book club! We’ll be reading the Endling by Maria Reva. \nIn honor of the concept of a Climate Victory Garden\, explored by Leah Penniman in her interview Seeds and Sovereignty\, we want to invite book club attendees to participate in a food surplus swap.Have you been growing something you have too much of? Do you have potatoes you bought that you don’t think you’ll be able to use before they start growing eyes? Did you meal prep too much bean salad this week? If you’ve got extra of anything\, meals or ingredients\, this is an opportunity to share. \nDon’t have anything extra? Let us share with you!! Of course\, if anyone would like to specifically make something for this event\, that is also allowed. \nDuring September’s meeting\, we’ll vote as a group on what to read next! Bring your ideas! \nLooking for a copy? There are a handful at the Seattle Public Libraries and King County Libraries. We also suggest a thriftbooks.com and betterworldbooks.com for ordering used books.
