DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. We also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email ava@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. DESCRIPTION:It’s time to chat and craft together. Bring your textiles or craft supplies (or use our sewing supplies)\, and get to know your community!\n\n\nGot a collection of hole-filled socks you can’t get rid of? Have you been meaning to set aside time for your latest alteration\, but need some motivation? Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? We plan to host it on the second weekend of each month: the second Sunday at the NE Seattle Tool Library and the second Saturday at the Shoreline Tool Library! \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom. SUMMARY:Learn How to Knit (Optional 2-Part Class)
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of knitting so you can start you first project and get hands-on support in the second session. Some materials required.\n\n\nThis two-session class will give you the skills and confidence to start your first knitting project. \nThe first session (4/11) will cover the basic steps of knitting. This includes the tools you need\, casting on stitches\, making both knit and purl stitches\, and binding off stitches. The first session will include a discussion of beginner projects\, how to read a pattern\, and how to pick out materials for a project. The focus of the first session is on practicing the skills rather than starting a project. \nThe second session (4/18) will be optional and structured more like office hours. Students can come and work on projects together\, and the instructor will be on hand to provide support. This could include working on an in-progress project\, getting help applying the skills from the first class to a specific project\, or picking out the pattern for a first project. \nStudents need to bring: Two double-pointed needles size 7-9 and worsted-weight (medium-thick) yarn. Note that if students already have other needle sizes and yarn weights\, they will work and don’t need to buy more. \nBelow are the dates for each part of the class. You only have to register for the first date listed (April 11th). Her aunt taught her the basics (like what she is proposing in this class) when she was young and she built up her knitting skills from books\, blogs\, and youtube videos. Sarah wants to show others how to use these resources to support their knitting journey. \nThis class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series\, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Woodshop Open Hours is designed to give you the space and tools you need to complete your projects. Regardless of your experience\, there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. \nCan’t find a time? Need extra support? \nIf none of these times work for you or you need a lot of hands-on project support\, please fill out our Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. SUMMARY:Tool School for Women+: Drills & Drivers\, Bits & Bobs
DESCRIPTION:This is a hands-on introduction to drills and drivers\, covering parts\, bits\, fasteners\, and safety. Safety glasses needed. Women+ space.\n\n\nThis class is geared toward absolute beginners or those who have very little experience using electric drills or impact drivers. \nAttendees will learn about drill and driver anatomy\, how to choose the correct drill or driver bit\, and choose the right fastener for common projects while emphasizing safety and workspace set up. There will be a hands-on part of this class\, where students will have a chance to handle these tools and practice drilling and driving into different materials. Students will also be introduced to drill guides and drill presses. Students are required to bring their own safety glasses. \nWomen+ classes are intended for women\, including cisgender and transgender women\, as well as transgender men and nonbinary people who feel comfortable learning in a space focused on women’s experiences. These classes provide a supportive environment to ask questions\, learn new skills\, and build confidence using tools\, especially for those who may not have had many opportunities to work with them before. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! You can donate and/or swap!\n\n\nWe are celebrating National Textile Day on May 3rd by having our first-ever Fabric and Yarn Swap! Do you have fabric and yarn that you’d like to move along or do you need fabric and yarn? \nDetails below\, but first… \nSeattle REconomy holds monthly “Community Threads” events at both tool libraries to provide a comfortable location for tool library members to work on their textile projects. \nSeattle REconomy has also had successful Clothing Swaps\, where members of the public donate clean and functional clothes for others to take\, free of charge. These clothing swaps keep textiles no longer wanted out of the landfill and ensure they’re moved along to people who need or want them\, at no cost. \nTo extend the textile-centered good vibes created by Community Threads and the Clothing Swaps\, we are having a Fabric and Yarn Swap at the Shoreline Tool Library! \nHaving fabric and yarn swaps helps fulfill Seattle REconomy’s mission by fostering sustainability\, growing community\, sharing resources\, and encouraging giving and trading.
