DESCRIPTION:Learn sewing machine basics\, stitches\, threading\, tension\, best practices\, and more! Leave with a sampler\, PDF guide and confidence.\n\n\nStudents will leave this class with the foundation for utilizing a standard home sewing machine. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking for a refresher\, this workshop will teach you all the ins and outs of a standard home sewing machine. We’ll use the Shoreline Tool Library’s sewing machines to explore questions like… \n\nHow do sewing machines work?\nWhen should I use each stitch?\nWhat’s a bobbin and how do I thread it?\nWhy do all the parts have funny names?\nWhat’s the deal with the tension?\nIs this thing I heard about sewing a rule or a guideline?\nHow soon can I make my dream project?\nAnd so much more!\n\nYou’ll come away with an understanding of machine sewing best practices\, a stitch sampler\, a PDF with all the information we cover in class\, and the confidence to start tackling some projects. \nAbout the instructor\, Mary McLennan and Karen: Mary is passionate about making textile skills more accessible and supporting a circular future for fashion and textiles in the PNW. Karen has been machine-sewing and quilting for over 40 years\, and has sewn garments\, home decor\, and quilts. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nACCESSIBILITY: \n\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom. DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our Monthly Volunteer Training where you’ll learn new skills and meet other awesome volunteers!\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with the community and help out at the Shoreline Tool Library. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer\, you haven’t been back in a while\, or you’re brand new\, everyone is welcome!  \nWe’ll cover everything you need to know to check in and out tools\, assist members\, and answer all of your questions. We’ll also go over other ways to volunteer\, including beautification\, outreach\, inventory\, fixing tools\, and steering committees.
