Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? SUMMARY:Simple Wood Furniture Repair for Beginners (S4) @ STL
DESCRIPTION:Gain the skills and confidence required to repair and refresh small wooden furniture. Some materials required. No experience needed. 18+.\n\n\nLearn how to repair and refresh small wooden furniture pieces in this beginner-friendly\, hands-on workshop. Participants will practice basic repair skills\, including identifying loose joints\, safely taking pieces apart\, re-gluing and clamping\, replacing small damaged parts\, sanding rough areas\, and doing simple finish touch-ups. \nThis class focuses on everyday tools like drills\, drivers\, circular (or miter) saws\, orbital sanders\, clamps\, and sanding blocks. Safety will be covered first\, including eye protection\, dust management\, safe tool handling\, and proper clamping. \nBy the end of class\, participants will leave with a repaired item of their own and the confidence to tackle simple furniture repairs at home. No prior woodworking experience is needed. \nImportant Notes: \n\nPlease bring one small-to-medium wooden item to repair\, such as a chair\, small table\, nightstand\, or frame.\nParticipants must wear closed-toe shoes\, bring an N-95 mask\, and be 18 or older.\n\nAbout the instructor\, Tiffany Lamoreaux: Tiffany has been doing “furniture flipping” for about 5 years now. She is passionate about keeping things out of the landfill\, so if she sees a piece of furniture on the side of the road\, she will often take it home and give it a second life. Most furniture needs minimal repair but lots of TLC. Sometimes Tiffany does complete redesign work\, sometimes she does a straight restoration\, but always she brings new life to a piece of furniture that would otherwise be tossed away. \nAll classes in Seattle REconomy’s Shoreline Sustainable Skill Series (S4) are offered at a reduced rate. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at Reuse Commons Lake City.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to Reuse Commons Lake City the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our Monthly Volunteer Training where you’ll learn new skills and meet other awesome volunteers!\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with the community and help out at the NE Seattle Tool Library. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer\, you haven’t been back in a while\, or you’re brand new\, everyone is welcome! \nWe’ll cover everything you need to know to check in and out tools\, assist members\, and answer all of your questions. We’ll also go over other ways to volunteer\, including beautification\, outreach\, inventory\, fixing tools\, and steering committees. This training includes foundational information that will help you at whichever tool library you volunteer at. \nIf you find that you can no longer attend this event\, please cancel your RSVP. \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible.  All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. SUMMARY:Winter Clothing and Halloween Costume Swap (S4) @ STL
DESCRIPTION:Swap cold-weather clothing and/or Halloween costumes that you no longer wear for pre-loved pieces you will. You can donate and/or swap!\n\n\nAre you ready to move along cold-weather clothing and accessories that no longer suit or fit you? Do you have Halloween costumes that no longer fit your children? Are they in good condition\, and do you cringe at the thought of throwing them away? \nAre you looking for some warmer clothes and accessories for this coming winter? Are you tired of spending too much money on Halloween costumes that your kids grow out of the next year? Are you interested in sustainable reuse of clothing? \nIf the answer to any of these is “Yes!”\, then please join us at the Shoreline Tool Library’s Winter Clothing and Halloween Costume Swap on September 27! \nThis event is free\, but because of capacity restraints\, we must limit the swap itself to 50 people. Please RSVP to attend the swap (you don’t need to register if you only plan on donating clothing or costumes). \n\nIf you’d like to browse what’s donated\, RSVP and come by any time on September 27 between 11am and 1pm.\nIf you’d like to donate\, drop off your donations directly to the Shoreline Tool Library on September 27 from 10-11am. Remember\, you don’t have to register if all you’re doing is donating.\n\nDonations Accepted: \n\nClean and wearable winter clothing and accessories for adults\, children\, and infants.\nClean and wearable Halloween costumes for infants\, children\, and adults.\n\nFAQS: \n\nWill there be dressing rooms? Yes\, there will be at least one dressing room.\nIs there a good way to get there by bicycle or walking? Yes\, the Interurban Trail runs right behind the Shoreline Tool Library\, providing a non-motorized way to get to us. And\, we have a bike rack in front that holds up to ten bicycles.\nShould I bring anything? It might be a good idea to bring a few bags for any clothing you may take home with you.\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the Shoreline Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the Shoreline Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Growing up in his father’s bike shop\, Russ literally has 60+ years of experience. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.
