They may also be able to provide some project guidance. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may sign up for an Orientation here. \nCan’t find a time? Need extra support? \nIf none of these times work for you or you need a lot of hands-on project support\, please fill out our Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. SUMMARY:Intro to English Paper Pieced Quilting
DESCRIPTION:Make a quilted flower by hand with English Paper Piecing. Create at least one and take home a travel kit to keep sewing on the go.\n\n\nStudents will create their own quilted hexagonal flower garden using the English Paper Piecing method in this beginner-friendly class. This scrap-basting quilting technique is done entirely by hand\, making it the ultimate portable craft. Using pre-cut paper shapes\, fabric is wrapped around and basted\, then hand-stitched together to create precise designs before the paper is removed. \nThere will be a number of scrap fabrics to choose from\, assuring each hexie flower is as unique as its creator! Students will create at least one flower in class\, ready to use on its own or expand into a larger piece and leave with a travel kit to keep quilting on the go. \nAbout the instructor\, Sarah Benson: Sarah Benson is a broom maker and fiber artist based in Shoreline\, WA. She has a background in fiber arts and printmaking and received her BFA from Arizona State University. Dedicated to a life of creating\, learning\, and skill sharing\, she began focusing on traditional handcrafts in earnest while homesteading in the San Juan Islands. When not creating\, she is busy running after her rambunctious toddler. \nThis class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series\, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the Shoreline Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the Shoreline Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our Monthly Volunteer Training where you’ll learn new skills and meet other awesome volunteers!\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with the community and help out at the Shoreline Tool Library. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer\, you haven’t been back in a while\, or you’re brand new\, everyone is welcome!  \nWe’ll cover everything you need to know to check in and out tools\, assist members\, and answer all of your questions. We’ll also go over other ways to volunteer\, including beautification\, outreach\, inventory\, fixing tools\, and steering committees. SUMMARY:Woodshop Orientation @ NESTL
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. When you arrive through that entrance\, the Wookshop is through the door in the left corner of the space. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. SUMMARY:Tool School for Women+: Build a Contemporary Side Table (2-Part Class)
DESCRIPTION:After this two-part\, beginner-friendly class\, you’ll leave with a  fully finished side table! Some materials required. Women+ Space.\n\n\nDesigned as a supportive and welcoming environment\, this two-part class is ideal for students who are new to building but ready to take the next step. Whether you’ve taken Tool School for Women+: Power Saws and/or Drills & Drivers\, Bits & Bobs\, or have equivalent experience\, this is a great way to apply those foundational skills to a real project.  \nYou\, the student\, will move at a comfortable pace with plenty of time for questions\, shared learning\, and individualized support. Along the way\, you’ll learn a simple joinery technique\, glue up boards to create a panel\, and practice layout skills like drawing circles on wood. \nBy the end of the course\, you’ll go home with a fully finished side table and the confidence to tackle your next build! \nWhat to Bring: \n\nYou are required to bring your own safety glasses\, hearing protection\, and N95 dust mask.\nAlthough there will be a variety of colors of stains/finishing products available\, you are encouraged to bring the stain or paint that you’d like to use on their table.\nIf you have a jigsaw\, palm sander\, or orbital sander of your own that you’d like to use\, you are welcome to bring it.\n\nPlease be sure you can make it to both of the class periods (listed below) and register only for the first date listed (June 27th): \n\nPart One: Saturday\, June 27th\, from 3–7pm at the Shoreline Tool Library\nPart Two: Sunday\, June 28th\, from 10am–12pm at the Shoreline Tool Library\n\nAbout the instructor\, Lynette Wacholz: Lynette is nearly retired from a career in healthcare. She’s also an avid user of tools. Lynette has taught classes on a variety of subjects to children\, college students\, and adults. At Seattle REconomy\, Lynette also teaches “Tool School for Women+: Power Saws” and “Tool School for Women+: Drills & Drivers\, Bits & Bobs”.
