SUMMARY:Intro to Table Saws
DESCRIPTION:Table saws are extremely useful tools\, so let’s review basic safety and use to give you the knowledge to operate them with confidence.\n\n\nThis class is for people who want to use a table saw but are apprehensive about safety. There’s a good reason for this apprehension\, as the table saw is one of the most dangerous tools in a shop; but it’s also one of the most useful. This class will cover both the safety basics and the first steps in actually using the saw to turn a piece of lumber into a piece of wood that you want; ripping\, cross-cutting\, etc. It is NOT to teach people how to make one thing or another\, but rather to give them the skills to use the table saw confidently and safely. \nAbout the instructor\, Geoff Poor: Geoff is Shoreline Tool Library volunteer and has instructed many people in the principles of safe and productive table saw usage. He is a retired educator who spent 27 years rehabbing an 1875 house in western New York. Since 2018 he has operated a part-time handyman business\, and uses table saws regularly in his handyman work. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nChildren are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis\, either as a student or as an observer. If you would like your child to attend a class with you\, please email info@seattlereconomy.orgwith their age and experience. Preparing the garden for winter\, or winterizing the garden\, is an important part of growing a healthy garden all year round! Learn different methods for covering your garden beds to keep your soil healthy including using mulches\, cover crops\, and physical barriers. We will also discuss season extension methods and seed saving basics. \nAbout the instructor\, Marni Swart: Marni Swart is a certified sustainable urban agriculturist\, garden coach\, edible garden/Permaculture designer\, nursery woman\, and owner of Growing Roots Together. Marni’s passion is teaching people how to sustainably grow more of their own food and medicine as a way of building connections with nature and within communities. She has been teaching sustainable urban agriculture for over 10 years and to many different groups including libraries\, online classes\, and garden clubs. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. Come to NESTL the 4th Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nThis will be our first fabric fix-it\, so we will be limiting it to 2 items per person. If we find our menders are able to get items fixed\, we would love to expand it to more! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. DESCRIPTION:Learn a variety of sewing skills and create a unique tool roll for your personal needs. Some intermediate sewing skills required. Age 18+.\n\n\nWhat a wonderful gift to give yourself or a loved one! Learn how to make a waxed canvas tool roll in this three-hour class. You will cut fabrics from a provided pattern with a cutting mat and rotary cutter\, learn how to sew thick/stiff fabric\, become a pro at installing grommets or snaps\, and learn how to customize the pattern for future tool rolls. \nYour tool roll can accommodate different types of tools\, such as small hand tools\, sewing tools\, bicycling tools\, crochet hooks\, knitting needles\, art supplies\, pens\, notebook\, mending supplies\, etc. We will start with a basic pattern that you can adjust to fit the tools you want to organize and carry with you.All supplies provided. \nThe skill level for this class is advanced beginner or intermediate sewists. In order to take this class\, the instructors require that you already be able to confidently thread a machine\, wind a bobbin\, adjust stitch lengths\, sew straight\, change sewing feet and back tack. \nPlan on arriving 5-10 minutes early to set up your machine. Join the Shoreline Tool Library on November 9th for our free Stay Warm and Dry Clothing Swap! \nClean and gently-used (coats\, sweaters\, jackets\, hats\, scarves\, gloves\, boots and raingear) for all ages are welcome and appreciated. There will be two restrooms open for trying on clothes. \nWe have limited capacity\, so please RSVP if you plan on attending the Clothing Swap! If you would only like to donate\, you do not need to RSVP for this event. \nHow to donate: All donated clothes should be dropped off at the Shoreline Tool Library on November 9 betwen 1–2pm. We know you might be eager to see what others are donating\, but we ask that after you drop off your donation\, you return between 2–4pm to partcipate in the Clothing Swap. \nA huge thank you to Everly and Magpie Thirft\, who are helping us recycle unwanted clothes responsible. All clothes leftover at the end of the vent will be reused/upcycled/recycled in their Shoreline store or with their partners. A major thank you also goes out to our amazing volunteers! \nThis clothing swap is generously funded by the RE+ Circular Economy Grant Funds from King County. \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nThe venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom. The restroom is ADA compliant.\nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events\, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility notes or requests. \n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus Rapid Ride E Line on Aurora Ave N and N 165th.\nBy bike: The venue is located one block west of the Interurban Trail. Shoreline Light Rail stations are each about 2 miles away. A bicycle rack is available outside the building. \nCar parking: There is an asphalt parking lot that fits up to 20 cars. There is one ADA van accessible parking space with an access aisle.

DESCRIPTION:It’s time to chat and craft together. Bring your textiles or craft supplies (or use our sewing supplies)\, and get to know your community!\n\n\nGot a collection of hole-filled socks you can’t get rid of? Have you been meaning to set aside time for your latest alteration\, but need some motivation? Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? We plan to host it on the second weekend of each month: The second Saturday at the Shoreline Tool Library and the second Sunday at the NE Seattle Tool Library! As it grows\, we may change it to a different day\, but we’ll let you know on social media. \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible.  All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. There is no ADA accessible parking.
