SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the NE Seattle Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the NE Seattle Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Growing up in his father’s bike shop\, Russ literally has 60+ years of experience. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nChildren are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis\, either as a student or as an observer. If you would like your child to attend a class with you\, please email info@seattlereconomy.orgwith their age and experience. Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. SUMMARY:Woodshop Orientation
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support is designed to help you move from idea to action with the support of an experienced Woodshop Steward. Together\, you can get help clarifying your plan\, choosing materials\, mapping out a cut list\, and/or making your first safe cuts. SUMMARY:Woodshop Orientation
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Learn more about becoming a member here! \nEmail us at ava@seattlereconomy.org if you have any questions on Woodshop usage. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. When you arrive through that entrance\, the Wookshop is through the door in the left corner of the space. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the Shoreline Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the Shoreline Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Growing up in his father’s bike shop\, Russ literally has 60+ years of experience. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nChildren are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis\, either as a student or as an observer. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use Onshape\, a CAD software\, to model basic parts. This is not a 3D Printer Orientation.\n\n\nLearn how to create basic parts in the CAD software Onshape! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover the basic aspects of parametric modeling\, including creating fully constrained sketches and turning sketches into bodies. Although this class is geared toward learning CAD specifically for 3D Printing\, this is NOT a 3D Printing Orientation class and will NOT cover how to use our in-house printers. \nYou are encouraged to bring your own laptop and mouse to the class and download Prusa Slicer and create an onshape account\, but it is not required. \nAlthough this class is geared toward learning CAD specifically for 3D Printing\, this is NOT a 3D Printing Orientation class and will NOT cover how to use our in-house printers. If you would like to use the tool library 3D printers\, you must take 3D Printer Orientation: The Basics\, which will teach you how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. When you arrive through that entrance\, the Wookshop is through the door in the left corner of the space. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nACCESSIBILITY: \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible. All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA compliant.\nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events\, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility notes or requests.\n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus route 372 stopping along Lake City Way NE at NE 98th St. Route 61 stops at NE Northgate Way & 23rd Ave NE and is a ½ mile walk from the tool library.\nBy bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the tool library\, and you are welcome to stow your bicycle inside the tool library during your visit.\nCar parking: There is a gravel parking lot that fits about 10 cars\, and an asphalt parking lot that fits 5 cars. There is no ADA accessible parking.
