DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. We also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email ava@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. DESCRIPTION:Take the first steps in designing your ideal backyard with Susan Gregory\, who has over 12 years of professional landscape design experience.\n\n\nIn this class\, we’ll start to sketch out your space and brainstorm ideas for how to begin. Students are asked to submit photos\, dimensions\, and questions(directions for this in the confirmation email following a ticket purchase) for their backyard area of focus\, and the instrcutor and class members will suggest ideas. As we work through each person’s project\, we’ll learn more about design principles and ways to create a more beautiful and functional outdoor space. \nAttendance at the first class is recommended\, but it is not required. You may learn more about Garden Design 1 and sign up for it on seattlereconomy.org/events. \nAbout the instructor\, Susan Gregory: Susan is a landscape designer with many years of experience both designing and implementing small and large landscape projects. SUMMARY:Learn Simple Drywall Patching and Painting (2 Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:Over two class sessions\, you’ll gain hands-on experience that will prepare you for your drywall patch and paint repair needs.\n\n\nIn this two-session class\, you’ll learn the basics of repairing holes in walls and ceilings. From tiny patches to larger teardowns\, a few simple tools and some inexpensive products make it easy to fix patches so that you can’t even see where it was fixed. \nThis is a hands-on class\, where you’ll get a chance to practice the skills in a safe environment. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. SUMMARY:Basic Lamp Repair
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to do basic lamp repairs on a variety of household lamps! You can even bring your own broken lamp for hands-on instruction.\n\n\nThe class will cover repairs of typical 110V household floor\, desk\, and table lamps. Topics will include safety\, the anatomy of typical lamps (including electrical parts)\, the various types of common lamp switches\, as well as instructor-guided replacement of lamps brought by students. Time and resources permitting other kinds of lamps may be discussed\, but primary focus is on normal 110V types. \nStudents are welcome to bring their lamps in need of repair\, or watch and learn. If you are bringing a lamp that are doesn’t have a brass socket\, you may want to bring your own replacement socket with the right color. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. The NE Fixers program\, supported by the Department of Neighborhoods’ Matching Fund\, aims to share repair skills within local communities. \nDuring these free events\, community volunteers will be on hand to offer their skills to help fix things like lamps\, small appliances\, clothing items\, small furniture\, and other items\, as well as to sharpen and maintain tools such as garden shears and pruners. \nAnyone is welcome to attend these repair events! DESCRIPTION:As a part of Shriya’s senior project\, she is teaching basic stitches so you can create a patch of your choice. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of knitting so you can start you first project and get hands-on support in the second session. Some materials required.\n\n\nThis two-session class will give you the skills and confidence to start your first knitting project. \nThe first session (4/11) will cover the basic steps of knitting. This includes the tools you need\, casting on stitches\, making both knit and purl stitches\, and binding off stitches. The first session will include a discussion of beginner projects\, how to read a pattern\, and how to pick out materials for a project. The focus of the first session is on practicing the skills rather than starting a project. \nThe second session (4/18) will be optional and structured more like office hours. Students can come and work on projects together\, and the instructor will be on hand to provide support. This could include working on an in-progress project\, getting help applying the skills from the first class to a specific project\, or picking out the pattern for a first project. \nStudents need to bring: Two double-pointed needles size 7-9 and worsted-weight (medium-thick) yarn. Note that if students already have other needle sizes and yarn weights\, they will work and don’t need to buy more. \nBelow are the dates for each part of the class. You only have to register for the first date listed (April 11th). Her aunt taught her the basics (like what she is proposing in this class) when she was young and she built up her knitting skills from books\, blogs\, and youtube videos. Woodshop Open Hours is designed to give you the space and tools you need to complete your projects. Regardless of your experience\, there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income.
