DESCRIPTION:Bring an item that needs darning\, and learn how to do it yourself! We recommend basic hand sewing skills\, but this is a beginner class.\n\n\nDarning 101! Everyone will bring an item of theirs that they would like to darn and after a tutorial\, we will each work on our own item for the remainder of the class with instructor supervision. This class is a beginner’s class\, but it will help to have BASIC hand sewing skills. This class will also teach people how to DIY darning mushrooms out of glass jars and various household items. \nIf you have a darning needle and/or a darning mushroom/egg\, please bring it so we can teach you how to use your tools! \nAbout the instructor\, Marlee Blue: Marlee has been mending clothes for a number of years. They are passionate about sustainability and keeping things out of the landfill. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? You will cut fabrics from a provided pattern with a cutting mat and rotary cutter\, learn how to sew thick/stiff fabric\, become a pro at installing grommets or snaps\, and learn how to customize the pattern for future tool rolls. \nYour tool roll can accommodate different types of tools\, such as small hand tools\, sewing tools\, bicycling tools\, crochet hooks\, knitting needles\, art supplies\, pens\, notebook\, mending supplies\, etc. We will start with a basic pattern that you can adjust to fit the tools you want to organize and carry with you.All supplies provided. \nThe skill level for this class is advanced beginner or intermediate sewists. In order to take this class\, the instructors require that you already be able to confidently thread a machine\, wind a bobbin\, adjust stitch lengths\, sew straight\, change sewing feet and back tack. \nPlan on arriving 5-10 minutes early to set up your machine. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community event with pies\, cider pressing\, t-shirt making\, games\, food\, drinks\, live music\, & open house at the tool library!\n\n\nOur Fall Harvest Festival is a free\, family-friendly event open to everyone! We’d love to celebrate with you. It will be a festive evening of homemade pies\, apple cider pressing\, DIY t-shirt making\, family-friendly games\, food\, drinks\, live music from an acoustic trio (starting 2pm)\, and an open house at the tool library! \nFor pies\, we’re inviting the community to make and bring their own so we can all share with one another. It’s a pie potluck! There are no limitations\, but we would like to label pies according to whether they have common allergens (eg. nuts)\, are gluten free\, dairy free\, etc. \nIf you’re interested in the DIY t-shirt making\, we recommend folks bring their own t-shirt (totebag\, sweatshirt\, etc. also welcome) to decorate. The tool library will supply a few\, but we may run out. We are still working out the details of whether this will be vinyl decals or screen printed. \nThis event is for folks who are already part of our community and folks who are interested in learning more. If you’re already a tool library member\, we request that you bring three friends who haven’t yet discovered the magic\, savings\, and positive impacts of borrowing instead of buying. DESCRIPTION:Learn basic safety of our workshop tools. DESCRIPTION:String beads for earrings and a memory wire bracelet from a wide selection of beads. Students may also bring their own! Age 18+.\n\n\nMake jewelry gifts for a friend or for yourself! In this class\, you will learn how to attach a string of beads to make earrings. You’ll also make a bracelet with memory wire\, which retains its shape\, is easy to put on\, and doesn’t require a clasp. \nAll supplies provided\, including ear wires and posts for making earrings\, lots of beads to choose from\, and silver and gold colored base wire earring findings. Create a wreath that will visually wish your friends and family a happy holiday season. \nWe recommend you bring gardening gloves and encourage you to bring any mementos you’d like to add\, such as handmade crafts from children or family members\, items that represent your heritage\, small/laminated pictures of family members or pets\, etc. Anything goes! \nAbout the instructors\, Rebecca Roush & Diana Lilig: Rebecca is a fine craft artist and loves making things by hand. She marvels at how easy it is to make holiday wreaths\, and wants to this craft with you. DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence.  \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence.  \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. Email us at NESTL@seattlereconomy.org if you have any questions on Woodshop usage.  \nIf none of the dates/times work for you\, check “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” on our Class & Event Notification Registration form. \nIf you are new to woodworking or would like to chat with an experienced Woodshop Steward\, check out Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support. This is for folks who feel a little intimidated about starting a woodworking project and would like personalized guidance and advice. Of course\, if you cannot find an open spot in Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support that fits your schedule\, you are welcome to sign up for Woodshop Open Hours\, regardless of your experience. You may just not receive personal guidance from the Woodshop Steward (though many of our Woodshop Stewards can provide some personalized support). \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible.  All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA compliant. \nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events\, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility notes or requests. \n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus route 372 stopping along Lake City Way NE at NE 98th St.  Route 61 stops at NE Northgate Way & 23rd Ave NE and is a ½ mile walk from the tool library.\nBy bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the tool library\, and you are welcome to stow your bicycle inside the tool library during your visit.\nCar parking: There is a gravel parking lot that fits about 10 cars\, and an asphalt parking lot that fits 5 cars. There is no ADA accessible parking.

We’ll cover everything you need to know to check in and out tools\, assist members\, and answer all your questions. We’ll also go over other ways to volunteer including beautification\, outreach\, inventory\, fixing tools\, and steering committees.
