DESCRIPTION:Sign up for time in the workshop here! Reminder: You must take the Workshop Orientation class before using open hours\n\n\nCome in to our workshop to work on wood projects and get guidance on your woodworking. Once you have completed the workshop orientation you may sign up for open shop hours! \nWe charge a $15 fee to access the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our workshop open. You are able to pay any additional time via a QR code once you have completed your time in the shop. \nAll shop time will be supervised by shop steward volunteers who will help you safely use our tools. \nIf none of these dates and times work for you please reach out to nestl@seattlereconomy.org \nACCESSIBILITY:  \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible.  All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. He’ll discuss a variety of sharpening techniques and answer any questions you may have about what tool to use for which job. \nYou’re also invited to bring some of your tools that may need sharpening! \nAbout the instructor\, Joel Gregory: Joel is a founding member of the NE Seattle Tool Library. He has spent many years using tools on a variety of projects\, so he has lots of experience keeping tools sharp. \nWe have limited spots for this class\, so if you’re unable to attend\, please cancel your RSVP to allow others the opportunity to sign up. \nThe 2025 Shoreline Sustainable Skill Series is brought to you by Seattle REconomy. SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the Shoreline Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the Shoreline Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Growing up in his father’s bike shop\, Russ literally has 60+ years of experience. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. \nChildren are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis\, either as a student or as an observer. Workshop orientation is necessary to use our workshop during our shop hours.\n\n\nSign up for a workshop orientation class to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our workshop and in order to use the workshop during our shop hours. We’ll be reading the Afterglow: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors edited by Grist. As a fun extra\, we invite you to come in your Halloween costume (completely optional)! \nAll are welcome at bookclub\, we hope to see you there for some discussion and community building. \nLooking for a copy? There are a handful at the Seattle Public Libraries and King County Libraries. We also suggest a thriftbooks.com and betterworldbooks.com for ordering used books. \nOur group agreements are as follows: \n\nRespect! DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—3D Printer Orientation: Foundations of CAD \nTaking the 3D Printer Orientation is required to use our in-house printers.
