Position Description
The Tool Library Coordinator is a paid staff position responsible for co-managing the day-to-day operations and volunteer experience at Seattle REconomy’s two tool libraries, the NE Seattle and Shoreline branches. The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with the public. This position works closely with the Library Manager, committees, members, and volunteers to ensure that the primary functions of the libraries are carried out with consistency, reliability, and in harmony with the goals of Seattle REconomy, the parent nonprofit.

Essential Tasks:
- Provide staffing during open hours at the Tool Libraries (we are open on select weeknights and weekend days)
- Check-in and out tools
- Complete new membership enrollments in the database
- Accurately maintain and expand the inventory of tools as they are circulated and acquired
- Assist with record-keeping and bookkeeping
- Maintain and update the database
- Assist in scheduling volunteers
- Train volunteers in the basic tasks of staffing the library
- Answer or appropriately route phone calls, mail, and e-mails from the public
- Assist in community outreach activities as needed
Attend Steering Committee meetings as requested by the Steering Committee, currently on the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 7 – 9 PM
Qualifications: The Library Coordinator should possess the following skills and abilities:
- Reliable
- Detail oriented
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Desire to serve the community and the environment
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written
- Experience effectively managing staff or volunteers
- Proficient with basic computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., Google products)
- Strong self-motivation and an ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
- Working knowledge of and ability to safely operate common hand and power tools, or willingness to learn quickly
- Ability to assess tool condition and perform basic tool maintenance tasks
Bonus skills! Not necessary, but we’d love to know about any experience you have with the following:
- Working with nonprofits
- Maintaining and improving the organization of a large inventory
- Strong computer and IT skills
- Wood shops and ability to teach others basic woodworking skills
- Bike maintenance and ability to teach others about bike maintenance
- Workplace safety
- Social media management and/or visual design work
- Maintaining and fixing common tools
- Broad knowledge of and ability to advise on a variety of DIY projects
Compensation: The Tool Library Coordinator will be paid for 20 hours of work each week, at a rate of $20/hour. There are no health benefits attached to this position, but there are generous paid time off benefits.
