Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects after completing our Woodshop Orientation. Woodshop Open Hours is designed to give you the space and tools you need to complete your projects. Regardless of your experience\, there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work. They may also be able to provide some project guidance. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may sign up for an Orientation here. \nCan’t find a time? Need extra support? \nIf none of these times work for you or you need a lot of hands-on project support\, please fill out our Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. \nWe also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email info@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. If you are interested in taking both\, you can take them in either order. \nTaking the 3D Printer Orientation is required to use our in-house printers. No experience needed. 18+.\n\n\nLearn how to repair and refresh small wooden furniture pieces in this beginner-friendly\, hands-on workshop. Participants will practice basic repair skills\, including identifying loose joints\, safely taking pieces apart\, re-gluing and clamping\, replacing small damaged parts\, sanding rough areas\, and doing simple finish touch-ups. \nThis class focuses on everyday tools like drills\, drivers\, circular (or miter) saws\, orbital sanders\, clamps\, and sanding blocks. Safety will be covered first\, including eye protection\, dust management\, safe tool handling\, and proper clamping. \nBy the end of class\, participants will leave with a repaired item of their own and the confidence to tackle simple furniture repairs at home. No prior woodworking experience is needed. \nImportant Notes: \n\nPlease bring one small-to-medium wooden item to repair\, such as a chair\, small table\, nightstand\, or frame.\nParticipants must wear closed-toe shoes\, bring an N-95 mask\, and be 18 or older.\n\nAbout the instructor\, Tiffany Lamoreaux: Tiffany has been doing “furniture flipping” for about 5 years now. She is passionate about keeping things out of the landfill\, so if she sees a piece of furniture on the side of the road\, she will often take it home and give it a second life. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to do basic lamp repairs on a variety of household lamps! You can even bring your own broken lamp for hands-on instruction.\n\n\nThe class will cover repairs of typical 110V household floor\, desk\, and table lamps. Topics will include safety\, the anatomy of typical lamps (including electrical parts)\, the various types of common lamp switches\, as well as instructor-guided replacement of lamps brought by students. Time and resources permitting\, other kinds of lamps may be discussed\, but the primary focus is on normal 110V types. \nStudents are welcome to bring their lamps in need of repair\, or watch and learn. If you are bringing a lamp that doesn’t have a brass socket\, you may want to bring your own replacement socket with the right color. How do you repair an “Oopsy!” when your hanging effort needs a repair? Woodshop Open Hours is designed to give you the space and tools you need to complete your projects. Regardless of your experience\, there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work. They may also be able to provide some project guidance. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may sign up for an Orientation here. \nCan’t find a time? Need extra support? \nIf none of these times work for you or you need a lot of hands-on project support\, please fill out our Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form.
