We are hosting a repair night at the Shoreline Tool Library. We will help you fix and learn to fix your broken tools\, lamps\, toys\, furniture\, appliances\, and any other broken items that you can carry in on your own. We encourage you to help as much as you can and enjoy the community of reuse! \nIf you are excited about fixing and want to help out with this event or other fixing opportunities we are looking for more fixers. As you play with different combinations\, you’ll pick up simple tips for arranging your finds in a way that feels balanced and personal. You’ll leave with a finished framed artwork that’s uniquely yours – full of charm and story. \nMaterials are provided\, but you are welcome to bring trinkets that are special to you to include! \nAbout the instructor\, Tess Davis: Tess is a lifelong artistic dabbler. Currently\, she’s exploring her love of vintage trinkets and paper ephemera to create pieces full of color and nostalgic charm. SUMMARY:Mending by Hand
DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of hand mending\, including how to patch holes. Start with a demo\, then practice on your own item. All supplies provided.\n\n\nIn this class\, students will learn the basics of mending by hand\, and specifically how to patch and fix holes by hand. The first hour will be a demonstration by the instructor\, and the second hour will be time for you to work on your own mending with lots of guidance from the instructor\, so be sure to bring something that needs a patch or has holes that need to be fixed. \nAll supplies provided. Students are welcome to bring their own fabric scraps for patching. \nAbout the instructor\, Sarah Jordan: Sarah has years of experience mending clothes via hand embroidery\, using a machine to patch\, light garment reconstruction such as reattaching belt loops and adding darts\, fixing holes and tears\, etc. She’s also an experienced quilter. Sarah has a Bachelors degree in fine arts with a focus on fiber and material studies. \nThis class is a part of our Fabrics and Fibers Skill Series\, which includes 12 classes and 1 event that hope to give you the opportunity to learn a variety of textile-based skills. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! SUMMARY:Basic Bicycle Maintenance at the NE Seattle Tool Library
DESCRIPTION:Work with a bike shack volunteer to learn how to tune up your bicycle!\n\n\nSpend an evening at the NE Seattle Tool Library learning the basics of maintaining your bike. Bring your own bike and learn from hands-on experience by addressing your specific needs\, such as gear\, brake\, and bearing adjustments\, wheel truing and bike fit. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. All in service to making your ride experience better and helping your bike last longer. \nAbout the Instructor\, Russ Steele: \nBasic Bike Maintenance is taught by Bike Shack volunteer Russ Steele\, former owner/manager of Wedgwood Cycle. Growing up in his father’s bike shop\, Russ literally has 60+ years of experience. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income. If cost is a concern\, we encourage you to contact us at info@seattlereconomy.org to discuss options. \nChildren are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis\, either as a student or as an observer. If you would like your child to attend a class with you\, please email info@seattlereconomy.orgwith their age and experience. SUMMARY:Fabric Fix-It
DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our Monthly Volunteer Training where you’ll learn new skills and meet other awesome volunteers!\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with the community and help out at the NE Seattle Tool Library. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer\, you haven’t been back in a while\, or you’re brand new\, everyone is welcome! \nWe’ll cover everything you need to know to check in and out tools\, assist members\, and answer all of your questions. We’ll also go over other ways to volunteer\, including beautification\, outreach\, inventory\, fixing tools\, and steering committees.
