SUMMARY:Create Your Own Hardwood Cutting Board (2-Part Class) @ NESTL
DESCRIPTION:Over two class sessions\, you'll create your very own hardwood cutting board to take home! Woodshop Orientation and some materials required.\n\n\nMake your own striped hardwood cutting board to take home. In the first session\, you’ll choose from walnut\, cherry\, and maple\, lay out your pattern\, and glue it up. In the second\, you’ll flatten it\, sand it\, round the edges\, and finish it with food-safe oil. \nPrerequisites for class: Woodshop Orientation. See our Class & Event Calendar for upcoming Woodshop Orientations and/or sign up for email notifications on our Newsletter Registration form. \nStudents must bring: Safety glasses and closed-toe shoes. \nPlease be sure you can make it to both of the class instances (listed below) and register only for the first date listed (November 18): \n\nPart One (Required): Wednesday\, November 18\, from 5–8pm\, at the NE Seattle Tool Library\nPart Two (Required): Saturday\, November 21\, from 3–6pm\, at the NE Seattle Tool Library\n\nAbout the instructor\, Alok Grover: Alok is a hobbyist woodworker based in Seattle. Woodworking is how he unwinds\, and he loves the moment a project goes from a pile of boards to something you’ll actually use every day. He’s made cutting boards and has been experimenting with hand-carved textures lately. He’s taught cutting board making before and enjoys helping beginners make something they’re proud of. \nOur sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy\, which operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline Tool Libraries and Reuse Commons Lake City. DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects after completing our Woodshop Orientation. Woodshop Open Hours is designed to give you the space and tools you need to complete your projects. Regardless of your experience\, there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work. They may also be able to provide some project guidance. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\nRegardless of the number of hours in the Woodshop you sign up for\, we expect you to show up within five minutes of the listed starting time. If you are not able to make this work\, please contact us at info@seattlereconomy.org immediately or use our Woodshop Open Hours Request form to request alternative hours.\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may sign up for an Orientation here. \nCan’t find a time? Need extra support? \nIf none of these times work for you or you need a lot of hands-on project support\, please fill out our Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. DESCRIPTION:Come join us for our monthly Volunteer Orientation\, where you'll gain new skills\, learn about our organization\, and meet other volunteers!\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can get involved with the community and help out at the NE Seattle Tool Library. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer\, you haven’t been back in a while\, or you’re brand new\, everyone is welcome! \nWe’ll cover everything you need to know about Seattle REconomy’s history and mission\, and our community will welcome you to become a part of it. We’ll also go over all of the different ways to volunteer\, from Front Desk to Bike Shack\, beautification to steering committees\, inventory\, teaching\, fixing tools\, outreach\, and more! If you’d like to take your first step to supporting this economy of reuse\, sign up below and we’ll see you there! \nIf you want to study ahead\, check out seattlereconomy.org/volunteer\, to find details about all our current opportunities to get involved. \nPerks of being a Seattle REconomy tool library volunteer? \n\nFree tool library membership when you volunteer 1 shift (or 3 hours) per month\nAccess to our Ridwell bin\nFree Seattle REconomy class if you volunteer 3 shifts (or 9 hours) in one month (learn more about our classes on seattlereconomy.org/classes-events)\nWarm fuzzy feelings!\n\nIf you haven’t already\, fill out our Volunteer Interest Form! \nThis monthly event is hosted at the NE Seattle Tool Library and the Shoreline Tool Library\, alternating locations each month. If it isn’t hosted at the location you hope to volunteer at\, don’t worry! This training includes foundational information that will help you at whichever tool library you volunteer at. \nIf you find that you can no longer attend this event\, please cancel your RSVP. \nACCESSIBILITY: \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible. All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5-degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA-compliant.\nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events. However\, attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility needs or requests.\n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus routes 72 and 77\, both of which have a bus stop on Lake City Way NE at NE 98th St. Route 61 stops at NE Northgate Way & 23rd Ave NE and is a ½ mile walk from the tool library. Bus route schedules and maps can be found here.\nBy bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the tool library\, and you are welcome to lock your bike outside or stow your bicycle inside the tool library during your visit.\nCar parking: There is a gravel parking lot that fits about 10 cars\, and an asphalt parking lot that fits five cars. There is no ADA accessible parking.
