DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. Please come to the East entrance of the NE Seattle Tool Library at the time of the class. DESCRIPTION:Over two class sessions\, you’ll gain hands-on experience that will prepare you for your drywall patch and paint repair needs.\n\n\nIn this two-session class\, you’ll learn the basics of repairing holes in walls and ceilings. From tiny patches to larger teardowns\, a few simple tools and some inexpensive products make it easy to fix patches so that you can’t even see where it was fixed. \nThis is a hands-on class\, where you’ll get a chance to practice the skills in a safe environment. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting paint on. The second session will be outside\, so dress warm. \nPlease be sure you can make it to both of the class periods (listed below) and register only for the first date listed (March 22nd): \n\nSession One: Sunday\, March 22nd\, from 11am–12:30pm at the NE Seattle Tool Library\nSession Two: Sunday\, March 29th\, from 12–1pm at the NE Seattle Tool Library\n\nAbout the instructor\, Afton Lewis: Afton has a professional background in restoration painting and drywalling. Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. We also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email ava@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. If you are interested in taking both\, you can take them in either order. \nTaking the 3D Printer Orientation is required to use our in-house printers. Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! There will be sewing machines\, fabric\, thread and community\, as well as hot tea. \nThis will not be a class format\, while there will be experienced menders present to offer advice and counsel\, this is intended as a co-working space. \nCan’t make it to this one? DESCRIPTION:Learn the basic safety of our woodworking tools. Woodshop Orientation is necessary to use our Woodshop during our Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nSign up for Woodshop Orientation to learn the basic safety of the tools that we have in our Woodshop. This will give you the basic training required to safely utilize our various woodworking tools\, and it will give you the prerequisite to use the space during Woodshop Open Hours. \nThe space is equipped with a large SawStop table saw\, 12″ compound sliding miter saw\, 2 band saws (one for resaw)\, drill press\, router table\, jointer\, planer\, spindle sander\, scroll saw\, and various hand tools. \nPrerequisite: \nYou must be a Seattle REconomy tool library (NE Seattle Tool Library/Shoreline Tool Library) member to take this class. There are suggested membership options\, but membership is pay-what-you-can\, and we do not require proof of income. You’re encouraged to bring your own! \nThis basic class will cover the tools you use for gardening\, from hand pruners to shovels\, both old and new\, that have been set aside because they no longer work well\, are rusty\, chipped\, and wobbly. Mostly\, we will talk about sharpening them and keeping them sharp. The instructor will get into the minutia and how he looks at sharpening using reflected light and the sense of touch. Students are encouraged to bring their own tools. \nAbout the instructor\, Joel Gregory: Joel is a founding member of the NE Seattle Tool Library. DESCRIPTION:Bring by your broken household items for a night of fixing and community building at the NE Seattle Tool Library!\n\n\nIt’s time to start collecting all those items around the house that need to be fixed but you don’t know how. We are hosting a repair night at the NE Seattle Tool Library. We will help you fix and learn to fix your broken tools\, lamps\, toys\, furniture\, appliances\, and any other broken items that you can carry in on your own. DESCRIPTION:Sign up for some time in our Woodshop! Reminder: You must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using Woodshop Open Hours.\n\n\nCome into our Woodshop to work on your personal woodworking projects. Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. We also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email ava@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. DESCRIPTION:Bring your textiles in need of mending for a night of repair and community at the NE Seattle Tool Library.\n\n\nNeed help getting your fabric back in tip-top shape? RSVP and come to the NE Seattle Tool Library the fourth Tuesday of each month for Fabric Fix-It! \nWe will have menders on site who can either offer advice on mending\, or mend textiles for you. If your project goals are out of the scope of what we can accomplish in one evening\, we will help you make a plan to carry out on your own. \nSome common fixes include: hemming\, patching small holes\, reattaching buttons\, and fixing or replacing zippers. \nWe are including a limit of two items at a time per person. If you have more items to be fixed\, feel free to bring them\, but we will prioritize fixing a few things for everyone over multple items for the same person! Feel free to bring supplies to fix your item\, if you have them. We will have some supplies on hand. Please plan on sticking around while your items are fixed. \nWant to mend at this event? Woodshop Open Hours is designed for woodworkers who are confident in their craft. While there will be a knowledgeable Woodshop Steward available to provide machine-based guidance and ensure your safety while you work\, this is a space where you can work more independently. \nWhat to Expect: \n\nApplicable tool operation refreshers (as needed) to get you started safely and confidently\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\nYour project idea\, pictures\, sketch\, or plans (digital or paper)\nAny materials you’ve already sourced\n\nPrerequisite: \nYou must take the Woodshop Orientation class before using any type of Woodshop Open Hours. You may learn more about the Woodshop here and sign up for Woodshop Orientations here. Since this version of Woodshop Open Hours may have Woodshop Stewards who can only support you through machine-based guidance\, we recommend that folks who sign up for this be more comfortable in the space or confident in their independence. \nCan’t find a time? \nIf none of these times work for you\, you can request a custom time via this Woodshop Open Hours Request Google Form. In this form\, you can request up to 3 potential time slots. If a Steward is available\, they will get back to you confirming one of the requested times. We also recommend filling out our Class & Event Notification Registration form and checking “Woodshop Open Hours (Woodshop Orientation Required)” to be notified when we post a Woodshop Open Hours next. \nIf a time within a currently listed Woodshop Open Hours works\, but you cannot make it within the first 5 minutes of its start time\, please email ava@seattlereconomy.org\, and we can try to work with your availability. Please make sure to check that there is an open spot and include the date/time of the instance in your email. \nCost & Donations: \nWe charge a $15 access fee to the shop and recommend a donation of $15 per hour of usage. Your donations help keep our Woodshop open. You can pay for any additional time via a QR code once you’ve completed your time in the shop. \nSafety & Supervision: \nAll shop time is supervised. Our instructor and Woodshop Steward volunteers will help you use tools safely. This is for folks who feel a little intimidated about starting a woodworking project and would like personalized guidance and advice. Of course\, if you cannot find an open spot in Woodshop Open Hours: Project Support that fits your schedule\, you are welcome to sign up for Woodshop Open Hours\, regardless of your experience. You may just not receive personal guidance from the Woodshop Steward (though many of our Woodshop Stewards can provide some personalized support). \nACCESSIBILITY: \n\nMuch of the NE Seattle Tool Library interior is wheelchair accessible. All entrances have ramps that may exceed a 5 degree slope. The all-gender restroom is quite small and not ADA compliant.\nNon-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events\, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.\nPlease contact us with any accessibility notes or requests.\n\nGETTING THERE: \n\nBy transit: Served by King County Metro bus route 372 stopping along Lake City Way NE at NE 98th St. Route 61 stops at NE Northgate Way & 23rd Ave NE and is a ½ mile walk from the tool library.\nBy bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the tool library\, and you are welcome to stow your bicycle inside the tool library during your visit.\nCar parking: There is a gravel parking lot that fits about 10 cars\, and an asphalt parking lot that fits 5 cars. There is no ADA accessible parking.
