SUMMARY:Make a Braided Wool Rug (4-Part Class)
DESCRIPTION:Over four sessions\, turn wool garments and blankets into a rug. Practice braiding\, shaping\, splicing\, and tapering. All supplies provided.\n\n\nIn this class series over the course of four Sundays in May and June\, students will learn how to turn old woven wool garments and blankets into attractive and useful rugs. Students will learn: \n\nMaking a T-Start\, and braiding vs. plaiting.\nBeginning to braid\, and making a curve or corner. Making the rug round vs. oval.\nLacing.\nSplicing in more material as you braid\, and strategies for color changes.\nTapering down and finishing.\nPreparing your own materials: washing\, deconstructing\, cutting strips\, splicing\, and folding. Securing the fold by pressing\, pinning\, or basting.\n\nBy the end of this series\, students will either be on their way to finishing or will have finished a small braided wool rug. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to use our 3D printers. 3D Printer Orientation is necessary to use our in-house Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers.\n\n\nLearn how to find\, prepare\, and print 3D models on our Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers! No previous knowledge is required. This class will cover where to source 3D models online\, how to slice files using Prusa Slicer\, and how to operate the machine. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to the class and download Prusa Slicer by clicking here\, but it is not required. \nThis class will not include a 3D modeling aspect. If you are interested in learning 3D modeling\, check out our other class—CAD for 3D Printing. Please note that CAD for 3D Printing class is NOT a 3D printer orientation class and will not cover how to use our in-house 3D printers. These classes will not have any content overlap. Come mend with us! \nOur Community Threads mending and sewing circle is a monthly event for anyone to work on their textile projects. Any textile craft is welcome! Honestly\, any craft is welcome\, but we will only be providing sewing supplies (at least at first). You can donate and/or swap!\n\n\nWe are celebrating National Textile Day on May 3rd by having our first-ever Fabric and Yarn Swap! Do you have fabric and yarn that you’d like to move along or do you need fabric and yarn? \nDetails below\, but first… \nSeattle REconomy holds monthly “Community Threads” events at both tool libraries to provide a comfortable location for tool library members to work on their textile projects. \nSeattle REconomy has also had successful Clothing Swaps\, where members of the public donate clean and functional clothes for others to take\, free of charge. These clothing swaps keep textiles no longer wanted out of the landfill and ensure they’re moved along to people who need or want them\, at no cost. \nTo extend the textile-centered good vibes created by Community Threads and the Clothing Swaps\, we are having a Fabric and Yarn Swap at the Shoreline Tool Library! \nHaving fabric and yarn swaps helps fulfill Seattle REconomy’s mission by fostering sustainability\, growing community\, sharing resources\, and encouraging giving and trading. You’ll also gain a better understanding of common noises and their causes and solutions. SUMMARY:Tool School for Women+: Drills & Drivers\, Bits & Bobs
DESCRIPTION:This is a hands-on introduction to drills and drivers\, covering parts\, bits\, fasteners\, and safety. Safety glasses needed. Women+ space.\n\n\nThis class is geared toward absolute beginners or those who have very little experience using electric drills or impact drivers. \nAttendees will learn about drill and driver anatomy\, how to choose the correct drill or driver bit\, and choose the right fastener for common projects while emphasizing safety and workspace set up. There will be a hands-on part of this class\, where students will have a chance to handle these tools and practice drilling and driving into different materials. Students will also be introduced to drill guides and drill presses. Students are required to bring their own safety glasses. \nWomen+ classes are intended for women\, including cisgender and transgender women\, as well as transgender men and nonbinary people who feel comfortable learning in a space focused on women’s experiences. These classes provide a supportive environment to ask questions\, learn new skills\, and build confidence using tools\, especially for those who may not have had many opportunities to work with them before. DESCRIPTION:Learn how to do basic lamp repairs on a variety of household lamps! You can even bring your own broken lamp for hands-on instruction.\n\n\nThe class will cover repairs of typical 110V household floor\, desk\, and table lamps. Topics will include safety\, the anatomy of typical lamps (including electrical parts)\, the various types of common lamp switches\, as well as instructor-guided replacement of lamps brought by students. Time and resources permitting other kinds of lamps may be discussed\, but primary focus is on normal 110V types. \nStudents are welcome to bring their lamps in need of repair\, or watch and learn. If you are bringing a lamp that are doesn’t have a brass socket\, you may want to bring your own replacement socket with the right color. DESCRIPTION:Take the first steps in designing your ideal backyard with Susan Gregory\, who has over 12 years of professional landscape design experience.\n\n\nIn this class\, we’ll start to sketch out your space and brainstorm ideas for how to begin. Students are asked to submit photos\, dimensions\, and questions(directions for this in the confirmation email following a ticket purchase) for their backyard area of focus\, and the instrcutor and class members will suggest ideas. As we work through each person’s project\, we’ll learn more about design principles and ways to create a more beautiful and functional outdoor space. \nAttendance at the first class is recommended\, but it is not required. You may learn more about Garden Design 1 and sign up for it on seattlereconomy.org/events. \nAbout the instructor\, Susan Gregory: Susan is a landscape designer with many years of experience both designing and implementing small and large landscape projects.
