Learn Disaster Preparedness with the Shoreline Fire Department (S4) @ STL

All ages are welcome at this class with the Shoreline Fire Department, as you learn about a variety of disaster preparedness strategies.

Join us at the Shoreline Tool Library for a free class where students will learn from Shoreline Fire Department’s Captain Andrew Leith:

  • How the 911 system works
  • Why there will be a significant delay after a disaster
  • What you will need to know post-disaster in the first 72 minutes and the next 72 hours
  • How to shut off utilities
  • Fire extinguisher operation
  • Supplies you’ll want to have on hand
  • How to purify water

All ages welcome, as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. This class has limited capacity, so if you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket.

About the instructor, Captain Andrew Leith (Shoreline Fire Department): Captain Leith has 23 years of experience at the Shoreline Fire Department. He’s a member of the WA State FEMA Task Force 1, Wildland Team, Technical Rescue Team, Rescue Swimmer, and is assigned to the North and Heavy Rescue Crew.

All classes in Seattle REconomy’s Shoreline Sustainable Skill Series are offered at a reduced rate. Funding for this series has been provided, in full or in part, by the City of Shoreline. If cost is a concern, we encourage you to contact us at info@seattlereconomy.org to discuss options.

  • The venue is wheelchair accessible and has an all-gender restroom. The restroom is ADA-compliant.
  • Non-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events. However, attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.

GETTING THERE:

  • By transit: Served by King County Metro bus RapidRide E Line on Aurora Ave N and N 165th.
  • By bike: The venue is located one block west of the Interurban Trail. Shoreline Light Rail stations are each about 2 miles away. A bicycle rack is available outside the building. If the tool library is not open and space is available, students are welcome to bring their bicycles inside the building.
  • Car parking: There is an asphalt parking lot that fits up to 20 cars. There is one ADA van accessible parking space with an access aisle.
