Seattle REconomy’s commitment to re-use extends to its Education Program, which focuses on classes that provide our members and the general public with opportunities to learn how to re-use, maintain and improve what they already have, and how to create something new. We teach classes at the NE Seattle and Shoreline Tool Libraries every month, and you can view our Event Calendar here.
We offer a variety of classes, but we are always looking for more ways to expand our knowledge and yours. If there are any topics that you are hoping to learn more about, please let us know by filling out this form! We have a list of classes that we have previously offered, which we hope gives you an idea of what we can offer in the future. If there are classes you are waiting for, you may sign up for customizable email notifications here.
Children are welcome at some classes with their parent or guardian on a case-by-case basis, either as a student or as an observer. If you would like your child to attend a class with you, please email info@seattlereconomy.org
Additionally, individuals who volunteer 3 shifts/month get one free class! Learn more about volunteering here.
Please note that we have a 72-hour refund policy. Please cancel or let us know if you may not attend an event at least 72 hours before the event starts, or you may not receive a refund.
Interested in becoming an instructor?
Both the NE Seattle Tool Library and the Shoreline Tool Library have resources for our teachers, ranging from a ridiculously large and varied inventory of tools, tables and chairs, white boards, etc. The Shoreline Tool Library has a projector and screen for presentations. (Not all of our classes are hands-on.)
We’re always looking for instructors who either compliment what’s already being taught (we can’t offer enough sewing and power tool classes!) or bring something new to the table. Interested? We will seriously consider every idea for a class that you might like to teach. And we make it easy for you to tell us about what you would like to teach. Fill out our Instructing Interest Form, and we’ll be back in touch soon.
Want to use our space for your events?
We welcome community partners who wish to utilize our facilities, provided that their event objectives and messaging are consistent with the values of Seattle REconomy, which are relationship to nature, inclusiveness, celebration, respect, communication, and creativity.
If your organization is interested in using either the Shoreline Tool Library or NE Seattle Tool Library for your event, please fill out our Application for Outside Organizations’ Use of Tool Libraries for Their Events here. We will review your request and respond to you in a timely manner.
In order to maintain operations, Seattle REconomy charges a sliding scale fee, based on the requesting organization’s annual operating budget. This fee offsets the operating costs of having the tool library open and staffed.
The fees are:
- Tier 1 (0-$99,000 annual budget) $40/hr.
- Tier 2 ($100,000-$499,000 annual budget) $80/hr
- Tier 3 ($500,000 and up) $120/hr
Seattle REconomy staff will be present before, during and after the event, and these fees are applied to any hours needed for event coordination and communications, set up beforehand, and clean up after the event.
