Learn to use YOUR Sewing Machine @ RCLC

November 15 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
$10.00
If you have a working sewing machine that you're not sure how to operate, we'll teach you how to use it and answer all of your questions!

Do you have a sewing machine but are not sure how to use it or what it can do? Bring your own machine to this class, and our instructors will guide you through using it. We can cover plugging everything in, threading, basic stitches, basic tension adjustments, your bobbin type, winding a bobbin, needles, sewing feet you have or can buy, basic maintenance, and cleaning.

We will not be able to service your machine, and you must confirm that it is operational and can form a stitch. If you are not sure, bring your machine to a sewing service shop, and they can confirm and/or provide a service. City Sew & Vac usually has the fastest turnaround of a week or less.

Please come with the following:

  • A working sewing machine (including a working power cord, foot pedal, presser foot, and bobbin to match your machine)
  • The machine’s manual (original or printed)
  • 2 new needles for your machine
  • Quality thread (recommended: Gutterman, Aurofil, Mettler, orMadeira)

About the instructors, Karen, Susan Gregory, Jen Yasis, and Ruth Tomandl: Karen, Susan, Jen, and Ruth have many decades of combined experience with operating, cleaning, and maintaining a wide variety of sewing machine types. They are also frequent volunteers for fabric fix-it nights and are able to adapt to many types of sewing projects quickly.

This class is offered at a reduced rate as a part of Seattle REconomy’s Community Tool Chest fundraiser in support of expanding programming to our new Lake City location. If cost is a concern, we encourage you to contact us at info@seattlereconomy.org to discuss options. This class is supported by the Seattle Office of Economic Development (OED) and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU).
