We’re Hiring: Shoreline Tool Library Coordinator/Materials Manager

Seattle REconomy is hiring a paid staff position to manage the day-to-day operations and materials experience at the Shoreline Tool Library.

Position Description

The Tool Library coordinator and materials manager is a paid staff position responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and volunteer experience at Seattle REconomy’s Shoreline Tool Library. The ideal candidate thrives in positive interactions and shares our values of sustainability and equity. This position works closely with the executive director, operations manager, steering committees, members, and volunteers to ensure that the primary functions of the libraries are carried out with consistency, reliability, and in harmony with the goals of Seattle REconomy, the parent nonprofit. This is a full-time position, with somewhat flexible hours

Essential Tool Library Coordinator Tasks:

  • Manage Tool Library during open hours (we are open on select weeknights and weekend days with assistance provided by volunteers)
    • Check in and out tools
    • Accurately maintain, expand and organize physical and digital tool inventory 
    • Verify new member accounts
    • Train volunteers as Tool Librarians
    • Accept donations of usable tools from the public
    • Answer or appropriately route phone calls and email 
    • Take payments via Zettle point of sale
    • Ensure physical and emotional safety (e.g., securing tools on shelves, working with public, etc.)
  • Various administrative weekly tasks such as recordkeeping, email response, and reservation management
  • Assist in community outreach activities as needed 
  • Attend steering committee meetings as requested currently on the 3rd Wednesdays of each month from 7 – 9 PM

Materials Manager:

  • Accept or reject donated items
  • Pick up and/or coordinate donations of large items
  • Sort, clean and categorize items
  • Weigh all items and track appropriately
  • Merchandise and display attractively - reorganize as necessary
  • Research and price materials, ensure pricing is consistent across the store
  • Maintain records of material sold 
  • Purge unsold items at regular intervals
  • Analyze success of program

Qualifications: The Library Coordinator should possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Reliable
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Volunteer management
  • Desire to serve the community and the environment
  • Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written 
  • Experience effectively managing staff or volunteers 
  • Proficient with basic computer software and ability to learn new systems
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision 
  • Working knowledge of common hand and power tools
  • Ability to assess tool condition and perform basic tool maintenance tasks
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Comfortable working on ladders and lifting 40 lbs
  • Ability to multitask

Bonus skills! Not necessary, but we’d love to know about any experience you have with the following:

  • Project management
  • Working with nonprofits
  • Maintaining and improving the organization of a large inventory
  • Computer or IT 
  • Wood shops and ability to teach others basic woodworking skills
  • Bike maintenance and ability to teach others about bike maintenance
  • Workplace safety
  • Social media management and/or visual design work
  • Maintaining and fixing common tools
  • Broad knowledge of and ability to advise on a variety of DIY projects

Compensation: This position is paid for 36-40 hours of work each week, at a rate of $21/hour. There are also generous paid time off benefits and a $150/month stipend towards health insurance.
