This is an optional workshop for those signed up for Birds Connect Seattle’s Cavity Nesters to Enjoy at Home 2025 online class. Registration can be completed on their website, but the information for their class and the optional class are provided below.

Optional Workshop: April 5 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. At Northeast Seattle Tool Library 10228 Fischer Pl NE, Seattle, WA 98125 (If sufficient registrations, a second workshop can take place April 12, same time and location)

Placing a next box in your yard, garden spot, or communal outdoor space is an excellent way to provide birds a safe place to raise their young and offers you a glimpse into bird nesting behavior. During this class we will discuss “why a box?” how to best deploy your box, and what to watch for when the birds show up. We will also discuss the essential seasonal tasks of caring for and cleaning your nest box.

An optional DIY nest box building workshop will be offered for class participants who would like to build a nest box of their own. Each participant will be guided as needed to construct a next box, suitable for small songbird species (chickadee, wren), using provided premeasured and precut materials. No power tools will be used during class. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult, have registered for the class, and are able to manage the time frame of the class and/or workshop. Appropriate for ALL levels of birders.
